Moissanite is not the same as a diamond. Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamonds, which means it reflects more vibrant rainbow-like ‘fire’ when exposed to light. In terms of hardness, diamonds are tougher, scoring a 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, while moissanite measures 9.25 - 9.5. Both stones exhibit dispersion and scintillation, and are good thermal conductors, they remain distinct materials. Moissanite is not a diamond substitute - just as an emerald isn’t. It is a gemstone with its own unique properties.
